“Higher Ground” is an annual juried exhibition dedicated to elevating the art community in southeastern Nigeria, positioning it prominently on both the national and international art stage. Inspired by vibrant global art centres and contemporary artistic practices, this exhibition aims to provide a platform for the vast creative talent in the southeast, promoting collaboration, innovation, and visibility for the region’s artists.
Objective: The aim of “Higher Ground” is to foster a thriving art ecosystem in southeastern Nigeria, drawing on the legacy of figures like Uche Okeke and Ben Enwonwu, who used their art to bridge tradition with modernity. By offering a platform that celebrates both established and emerging artists, this exhibition seeks to cultivate a vibrant creative community while showcasing the distinctive cultural heritage of the southeast.
Eligibility: The exhibition is open to all artists, irrespective of their geographical location. However, submissions that reflect or are inspired by the culture, history, and evolving artistic expressions of southeastern Nigeria are strongly encouraged.
Submission Guidelines:
Open to all media, including painting, sculpture, installation, photography, and mixed media.
Artists may submit up to three works for consideration.
Works should align with the themes of progress, cultural evolution, or personal interpretations of “Higher Ground” in the context of art and society.
Each submission must include an artist’s statement explaining how the work contributes to the exhibition’s vision of uplifting the southeastern art community.

Exhibition Opening: 14 December 2024
Participation Fee: N40,000
Jury: A distinguished panel of artists, curators, and cultural thought leaders will form the jury, with a particular focus on works that demonstrate artistic excellence and reflect the exhibition’s theme of elevation and community growth.
