Who We Are
Awka Museum Foundation was birthed on the 23rd of December 2019 at Umudioka Village, Awka Town, in the Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State of Nigeria.
The Foundation is primarily set up with a view to erecting a befitting museum at Awka. The museum will be a repository of artefacts from Nigeria and around the world.
Apart from being the capital of Anambra state, Awka (Originally spelt as ‘Oka’) has a rich history of being a great centre for the Arts. Added to this are the great persons of authority in the field that trace their ancestry to Awka. Late Renowned Professor of History, Kenneth Dike, hailed from Amikwo Village, Awka, the Nigerian/British Artist Late Mrs. Chinwe Chukwuogor-Roy MBE, was also from Umubele Village in Awka. The museum with a nine-man Board of Trustees is a private non-profit organisation.
To launch the museum into the world of ancient and contemporary arts and culture, and make it a worthy centre of excellence for tourism, scholarship, and leisure.
To seek, acquire, document, and collect; exhibit and protect artefacts and assorted genres of Nigeria, Africa, and the world.
